Carancas H4/5

Carancas, Puno, Peru
1145hrs, 15 September 2007

Two fragments of the Carancas fall. The meteorite is friable and leaves a powdery residue when handled.

This fragment is about 8mm in diameter.
The left end of the piece is a flat, dark, striated slickenside / shock fracture surface.
A similar feature lies four and a half millimeters to the right of that and in a plane parallel with the left end of the sample.
The right end displays a dark coating that is thicker, roughly textured and not planar. It looks like fusion crust but might be additional exposed internal shock material. Some portions appear to overlay slickensides.

Thick, rough material appears layered in some spots. Just right of center a crack traverses a smooth, oval, low lying patch.
